Computing Facilities


The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Western Carolina University maintains computing facilities to satisfy a number of teaching research, and administrative needs. These facilities supplement the computing facilities provided at the university level.

Departmental Computer Lab

The department funds and operates a computer lab in Stillwell 434, on the same floor as the departmental office. The lab is equipped with x86-based computers running Microsoft Windows XP and Fedora Linux.

Departmental UNIX Server

The Math and CS department maintains a Linux server, sol.cs.wcu.edu which serves the cs.wcu.edu website and provides shell and X-windows access for student and faculty work.

Each student in the department has an account on sol, which includes the opportunity to place a home page online.
